Hook is situated in the district of Hart, in north east Hampshire. It is a large village (in 2011 the population was 8,334) lying astride the A30, just to the north of the M3 at Junction 5, about six miles from Basingstoke.

The village is bounded on the east side by the picturesque valley of the River Whitewater, and to the south by two areas of common land – Hook Common and Bartley Heath.

Bartley Heath is an area of wet heathland designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is particularly remarkable for the presence of the rare Marsh Gentian.

Bartley Heath and Hook Common are easily accessible from the village and are a great place to enjoy wildlife. For more information visit the Hampshire Wildlife Trust‘s website.

Hook has a busy community life – find out more from the links on theΒ About HookΒ menu to the left of the page.

We have a post election vacancy on the Parish Council to be filled via the Co Option process. Parish Councillors serve a 4-year term. The roles are unpaid (although allowances are available) and you will be required to attend a minimum of 1 Council meeting per month. Additional meetings will need to be attended and the frequency is dependent on which Committees you decide to sit on.
If you are interested, we recommend coming to talk to our Clerk or an existing Councillor and attending some of our meetings, to get a clear idea of what is involved in this valuable and important role. All meetings are open to the public to attend. The meeting calendar and all contact details can be found on our website https://bit.ly/3RZpltp

Hook has been a civil parish, with its own Parish Council, since 1932. The council has twelve members, who each represent the whole village. The full council meets approximately once a month, with committee meetings more frequently. Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings, and may address the council under the "Ten Minute Rule" during meetings of the full council.

As many are aware, our Planning Officer Annalie has sadly left her role at Hook Parish Council.

Carol Bristow has now joined us. Having come from a Local Authority background she comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience and has settled in quickly to the role. Annalie kindly stayed a little longer than required to ensure Carol was able to have a thorough handover and be brought up to speed with the local area and current planning matters.

We would like to thank Annalie for all her hard work and dedication over the years she has been with us and wish her all the best for the future.

Last year, the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Bench from 1897 (one of three in the village) originally located adjacent to the entrance to Gefferys House, disappeared. It had been mistakenly removed by the previous owners of Gefferys House (The Worshipful Company of Ironmongers) who were unaware that it belonged to the village.

A number of our Councillors rescued the bench and the Council agreed to refurbish and relocate the bench. Local blacksmith Ian Parmenter has worked hard to restore the bench back to its original condition. Having stripped it back to bare metal, removed multiple layers and colours of paint, he then repaired the legs and re-painted it in its original colour. Our Groundsman and his team created a new solid base for the bench to be attached to. The cost for the refurbishment was kindly covered by The Worshipful Company of Ironmongers. It has now been installed next to our flag pole in Hartletts Park for residents to enjoy for another 120 + years.

School Transport

If you would like your child to be considered for School Transport from September 2024, be aware of the deadlines:

πŸ“… For children attending mainstream primary and secondary schools – 31 May 2024
πŸ“… For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) – 30 June 2024

A Post-16 Transport service is available only to young people with SEND, who access further education/training. The application deadline for this service is 30 June 2024.

Hampshire County Council (HCC) won't review any applications received after the deadlines until all of the applications that were made on time have been processed. This means that transport will not be in place for September 2024, and may not be available for the first academic term.

For full details, including how to apply and eligibility criteria, go to https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schooltransport/parent-carer/application-process
